FUNDRAISING

Because St. Bart's is a private school, we rely heavily on fundraising to keep our tuition as low as possible. We also raise additional money through school organizations to provide "extras" in the way of sports, school events, and campus upgrades. Our students and their families work hard in this area and take a lot of pride in what they do for their school, and it has been well integrated into our school culture.

There are several different types of fundraisers that we do:

  1. Those that go, in their entirety, directly to the school
  2. Those that are a percentage of total sales from an outside company based on school family purchases using an assigned ID number
  3. Those that a portion goes towards families' required annual fundraising contributions
  4. Those that go to a specific school organization to use as needed
  5. Those that go to our parish
  6. Those that go directly to a charity

Here is a comprehensive list from each category with links to more specific information regarding each one (current and ongoing fundraisers are highlighted):

EITC (Earned Income Tax Credits)

Did you know that your business (or employer) can earn state tax credits while providing scholarships to our Catholic school students?  As more businesses participate, the Diocese Scholastic Opportunity Scholarship Fund will be able to make Catholic education more affordable for families who qualify for aid.  The best thing is that we can have the funds directed to our school to help families in our community.  Taking a moment to fill out a short form, may change the life of a student forever.

Please take a moment and review the process below and access the state site at www.newpa.org , search EITC for more information.  You can also contact Dr. Ronald Bowes at 412-456-3090 at the Pittsburgh Diocese.  School Contact is Janice Mahoney at mahoney.janice@gmail.com or 412-825-5090.

Process That A Business Follows to Seek Approval for Tax Credits

1.     Verify that you are subject to one of the following state taxes:

**Please note that due to new legislation, Subchapter S or smaller companies may now participate.

2.     Fill out either Pre-K form or the K-12 form (found at www.newpa.org ) and fax to the Department of Community and Educational Development (DCED) 1-717-772-3581.

3.    Wait for approval from the DCED.

4.    Within 60 days of the DCED’s approval letter, make a contribution to the SOS fund with a note for designation to go to St. Bartholomew School.  The check should be mailed to:Department of Catholic Schools, 111 Boulevard of the Allies, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

5.    Receive a written acknowledgement letter from the SOS fund confirming receipt of your gift.

6.    Forward a copy of this acknowledgement letter to the DCED within 90 days of the date of the DCED’s approval letter.  This letter then acts as a copy for the receipt.

Campbell's Soup Labels for Education Program

It's not only Campbell's soup that can earn our school educational products and equipment, but also other familiar items, too, such as Pepperidge Farm, Prego Italian sauces, V-8 drinks, and more! Check here for a full and comprehensive list of products that support the Labels for Education Program. Simply clip out the UPC codes from the labels and send them to our Front Office. We will process these labels to earn points/credits that we can exchange for items in areas relating to Art, Music, Library, PhysEd, and Computers. To give you an idea of the value of each label.. a basketball is valued at 650 credits, and, a new computer is 93,000 credits. So, be sure to send those labels in! Pop Can Tabs

The Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House is able to offer families hope, compassion, and a safe place to call home. These families from all over the world face the traumatic experience of having their child hospitalized in Pittsburgh for a serious illness. St. Bartholomew's students are "pulling" for the Ronald McDonald House by collecting and donating pop tabs to the House. The fifth graders are responsible for the collection in the school. The donated pop tabs are taken to a local scrap metal yard where they are weighed and exchanged for cash. The money generated plays an important role in keeping the doors open, the lights on, and the heat running.

PTG (Parent Teacher Guild) Fundraisers

Throughout the year, the PTG raises money through fundraisers to help support the school in many ways. The monies raised go towards school building improvements (ceiling fans in classrooms, etc), field trip allotments (to help reduce the cost to our students' families), contributions towards school marketing materials, sponsorship of our school's monthly assemblies, hosting school wide events (such as FunDay), as well as contributing towards "unexpected" school expenses.

Pie Shoppe Sale

This event will be one that the PTG will try to do twice a year. Once in the spring for Easter, and once in the fall for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. For the 2008-09 school year it will be a Christmas Pie Sale. For more information, click here.

Shop N Save SEED (Students Extra Educational Development) Receipts Program

With every $250 worth of Shop N Save receipts that our school receives, one student's "admission" to a SEED school assembly is free. St. Bart's offers one assembly per month to all of its students. We have had visits from representatives of the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the Carnegie Museum of Science with hour long hands-on learning experiences and presentations. Please ask all of your friends and family members to save their receipts, too, and send them to the Front Office at the school to ensure that we reap the rewards of this wonderful program. For more information on the Shop N Save SEED program, click here.

Box Tops for Education

With every Box Top you send in, we receive CASH from the program. You can find these Box Tops on almost anything; here's a list of items you can find them on. We have earned about $5,000 since we started this program in 2002. Last year alone we earned over $700. For more information about this program, click here.
